Last Updated January the year 2

Research Interests:

Project 1: The neuronal cytoskeleton, in particular the neurofilament proteins.

Project 2: Development of computerized methods for the analysis of protein and nucleic acid sequences.

Project 3: The function of Pleckstrin Homology (PH) domains and other protein modules in cell signaling and disease processes.

Check out my Socialized Web Page the Brain Institute, the Department of Neuroscience , the UF College of Medicine and the University of Florida.

Links to various Hobbies and non-work (partly anyway) interests, also my Proven Lab Techniques (rubbish I came up with for a local talent show, a little plagiarised I must admit). Other fun stuff Internet Slang, the Internet Anagram Finder (which told me my name can be anagrammed to Gary Shrew, very useful information which I didn't know).

Links to some teaching stuff: the Computer Class 2001: the Signal Transduction and Cancer Class 2001: the University of Florida Graduate Program, a.k.a. the Interdisciplinary Program in Biomedical Sciences. Finally, here you can download and print out a PDF version of the IDP Neuroscience Poster 1999-2000.

Really useful computer programs, databases and protocols:

BLAST- find protein and nucleic acid sequences related to yours- the tool of choice. SMART- Find domains in your protein sequence- really excellent! CLUSTAL- Make multiple alignments of protein or nucleic acid sequence at Baylor College of Medicine.
Molecular Biology Protocols- A load of useful Molecular techniques links. PCR jump station- lot of really useful PCR links. Antibody Resource Page- a load of links related to antibody stuff.
Prodom- A database of protein domains, actually the first available. Linscott's Antibody directory on line- Catalogue of commercial antibodies. Webcutter- Free Web based restriction mapper.
Primer3- Great web based primer designer from Whitehead Institute Nature/Nature Genetics Genome Gateway - Links to current genome projects Baylor COM sequence utilities (translate, make FASTA format etc.)
